“NAI CITY — A Fiction Where You Live” is an experiential installation exploring the boundary between reality and fiction. Set in a fictional city, it presents public systems and objects that visitors can interact with. Through this engagement, the fictional city gradually takes on a tangible presence. The work prompts reflection on the nature of civic participation and reconsideration of how our perception of reality is constructed.
Visitors walk through the exhibition like they are exploring the city, observing signs, posters, and videos in Nai City. They can then participate in activities prepared for “citizens”, such as completing city hall procedures or taking part in a residents’ vote. Through conversations with staff and other “citizens”, Nai City gradually comes to feel like a real place. Finally, by leaving their own words and ideas within the space, visitors experience becoming part of the exhibition, and collaboratively shaping the fictional city.
