Exhalaxon

Teruki Mayama

This installation measures and analyzes the electrical activity of living neuronal networks currently being cultured in real time, expressing it through light, sound, and vibration. Collective firings flicker and fade. Touch it with your palm, and you may feel the breath of life trembling. The tiny brain on a petri dish etches into your own—the image of life itself: chaotic yet structured, eerie yet beautiful.

Everything in this universe will eventually lose its form and unravel. Nothing can escape that flow toward nothingness. Yet within it, my consciousness and heart undeniably exist. —sustained by countless neural activities racing through the brain, continuously seeking existence from the void, defying fate. The raw material of the mind lives here, on a petri dish—constantly trembling between order and chaos. Seemingly empty, yet someone is there. Touch this unfathomable exhalation of life, and savor the miracle of existence in this universe.
